File petition to amend
C.O. 60, drivers advised

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Dumaguete City legal officer Neil Ray Lagahit yesterday advised members of Motor-Piston to file a petition to amend Ordinance Number 60 to address what they claimed to be an "excessive and immoral" permit, and franchise fees among pedicab drivers and operators.

The Kabataan Party List groups joined the Kilusang Mayo Uno-Motor Piston in front of City Hall Wednesday to express their disappointment with the Sangguniang Panlungsod, for the increase in the fees.

Members of Anak Bayan and Anak Pawis Party lists also participated in a lightning rally in front of the City Hall, to oppose the ordinance.

Lagahit, however, said he believes the amendment if approved, will take effect next year because the move would entail a long time to process.

He said he was surprised why protestors stormed the City Hall when the local government had maintained open communication to resolve the impasse.

Evidente told Lagahit they merely wanted an amendment for the reduction of the fees, stressing that they understand this will take some time.

Lagahit called on Ronald Ian Evidente of Anak-Pawis to stand by his statement on the ongoing talks between the city and the drivers sector.*JG
