Around P1.5 million has been released by the Department of Labor and Employment for the victims of the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that hit Negros Oriental, recently, a press release from the agency said.
The cash assistance came through the DOLE's Tulong-Pangkabuhayan sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers program under the Comprehensive Emergency Employment program for rural workers in Ayungon, La Libertad, Jimalalud and Tayasan towns, and Guihulngan City, in the First District, the press release also said.
DOLE officer-in-charge Vivencio Lagahid said that, of the amount, the five local government units will have P300,000 and 100 workers each, for the daily minimum wage of P200 per worker in 15 days.
TUPAD is an emergency employment program that seeks to help displaced workers cope and recover from emergencies or destructive earthquake. Displaced workers are given short-term wage employment as immediate source of income for their day-to-day living, the press release added.*
