Group starts
renewable energy drive

BY LISA GAPAC

The Clean Renewable Energy Movement for Ecological Integrity, a newly organized green group in Negros Occidental is asking the House of Representatives to lobby for the creation of guidelines of the RepublicAct9513 or the Philippine Renewable Energy Law.

Francisco Puey, one of the organizers of CRÈME, said clear guidelines are important to help and make people understand the importance of using renewable energy.

He said there are too many damages and threats to the environment, yet people seem not to care about it. That is why they organized CREME to become the prime mover on environment preservation, rehabilitation, and the use of renewable energy in the province.

Puey said this is the only investment they can make today to protect the future and is this will try to diffuse the imminent threat of environmental damage.

They have started the green revolution and campaign in the cities of Sagay and Cadiz and will move on to other town and cities to promote the use of clean energies like wind, solar, biomass and hyro power in Negros Occidental.

The group also wants the government to issue orders and directives to ban all logging activities in Negros for fear that the incident recently in Cagayan de Oro due to typhoon Sendong may happen in Negros. *LTG
