TMU acts vs.
flyover accidents
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

The Bacolod City Police Traffic Management Unit is set to meet with the Department of Public Works and Highways for the strict implementation of the “no crossing policy” near the flyover area, following the death of a pedestrian Saturday, its head Chief Insp. Luisito Acebuche, said yesterday.

Rodel Tingson, 27, of Silay City, Negros Occidental was crossing the street near the flyover area in Brgy. Bata at about 4:40 p.m. when he was sideswiped by the Nissan Adventure vehicle of Gilbor Gallo, 54, of Manapla town, Negros Occidental.

Tingson sustained injuries in his body and was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, where he died.

Acebuche said he will raise with the DPWH the problem of pedestrians crossing the street near the flyover so the agency can put up additional barriers there. He reiterated that pedestrians are prohibited from crossing near the flyover as it is dangerous.

Acebuche added that pedestrians may use the area under the flyover if they want to cross the street.

Records from the TMU show that there have been at least 20 accidents near the flyover since its inauguration last year. The area was also included in the list of accident-prone places by the TMU.

He also said that there has been an initial talk about settlement between the family of Tingson and Gilbor, but while the negotiation is ongoing, Gilbor will remain in the custody of Police Station 3.*APN
