Plane passengers
get landing scare

BY CARLA GOMEZ

Passengers of Philippine Airlines Flight 135 got a scare on landing at the Bacolod Silay Airport at about 5:58 p.m. yesterday.

After hitting the tarmac the plane shuddered strongly for about three or four times causing passengers to shout, before it glided very slowly towards the airport terminal tube, a passenger said.

Its slow glide towards the tube was clearly not normal, and there definitely was something wrong with the plane, he said.

PAL Bacolod manager Fernando Bermejo said PR 135, which is an Aairbus 320, experienced a minor mechanical difficulty and was unable to fly back to Manila at 6:45 last night as scheduled.

PR 135 had 133 passengers in the economy section and one in business class when it landed at 5:58 p.m., he said.

The 124 passengers who were supposed to fly out on the same aircraft as PR Flight 136 at 6:45 p.m. were accommodated on other airlines, while others were provided hotel accommodations for the night, Bermejo said.

Mechanics with the needed spare parts are expected to arrive on the first flight today and Flight 136 is scheduled to depart at 11 a.m., he added.*CPG
