EB Magalona Mayor David Albert Lacson, president of the Negros Association of Chief Executives, yesterday said he personally supports Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. and believes that the majority of mayors in Negros Occidental also do.

Lacson gave the assurance amid rumors that support for the governor has waned. It has been alleged that some mayors prefer that Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez Jr. run for governor in 2013 instead.

There were some complaints about the release of projects but those have been addressed already, Lacson said.moremoremore

Governor plans to
buy 10 harvesters

The provincial government intends to buy 10 more rice combine harvesters to fully mechanize rice farming in Negros Occidental and help farmers earn more, Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said yesterday.

Marañon said mechanization will reduce field losses by three percent, and pointed out that based on the actual experience of farmers, their losses have reached 10 to 11 percent.

The rice combine harvester that was recently donated by the Department of Agriculture to the province and has been tested in different farms costs P2 million.

4 rebels, civilian face raps

Four members of the New People’s Army and a civilian will be charged in court next week, for the assassination of PFC John Ilisan in Brgy. Camindangan, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental, Lt. Col. Rodrigo Sosmena, 47th Infantry Battalion commander, said yesterday.

He said they have established the identities of the four NPA assassins and the civilian who coddled them, but withheld their names pending the filing of charges.

Ilisan, a member of the 47IB Peace and Development Team tasked to help farmers in Brgy. Camindangan and neighboring hinterland areas in the acquisition of land, was also robbed after he was killed last month, Sosmena said.moremoremore
