2 charged for killing
of OFW’s wife

BY ADRIAN NEMES III

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Negros Occidental filed murder charges before the Provincial prosecutor’s Office last week against two men tagged in the killing of the wife of an Overseas Filipino Worker in Hinigaran town last month.

This was disclosed yesterday by Occidental head, Chief Insp. Crisenciano Cordero who, however, withheld the names of the suspects pending their arrests.

Cordero said a witness claimed that the suspects, one of them a close friend of the victim, Ma. Theresa Vinco, 39, asked him to accompany them to her house Brgy. Paticui as they want to talk to her.

Cordero added that when the three arrived at the victim’s house at about 2 a.m. on June 25, the witness decided to leave, but before he could get any farther, he heard Vinco shouting for help.

The CIDG has set aside the angle of robbery behind the killing as there were no valuables missing. The cellular phone of the victim was sent to the forensic crime laboratory of CIDG-Cebu to check if there are messages stored there that could aid them in resolving the case, he said.

The husband of Vinco, who is working in the United States, was reportedly scheduled to send money to the victim at the time she was murdered, the police said.

Former Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office Director Senior Supt. Allan Guisihan has decided to let CIDG handle the case after allegations were aired that policemen destroyed evidences recovered from the crime scene that could be vitalin resolving the case.*APN
