One-stroke calligraphy
exhibit set June 9-19

The one-stroke calligraphy works of Venerable Master Hsing Yun will be exhibited at the Yuan Thong Temple at Burgos Street near Lopue’s East in Bacolod City, from June 9 to 19, a press release from the temple said.

The event, organized by the Fo Guang Shan Mabuhay Temple in Manila, and the Buddha’s Light International Association Philippines, will showcase the extremely rare one-stroke calligraphy of Yun, who turns 83 years old this year.

Yun can barely see, so every piece of calligraphy he wrote was done in one stroke. No discontinuation is allowed from beginning to end, as any discontinuation will make it difficult to continue to the next character because his vision does not allow him to distinguish the distance between each character. For this reason, he is forced to complete the whole work in one stroke, the press release also said.

Yun will also hold a series of calligraphy charity fundraisers and will travel to Taiwan, United States, Europe, Hong Kong, China and other countries to create good affinity with the public and the Buddhists, the press release added.*
