Sagarbarria eyeing
dev’t of kayaking
BY MARICAR ARANAS

Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria said he is planning to develop the kayaking sport to enable tourists and visitors to enjoy the clean and beautiful Rizal Boulevard in the city.

He said that he got the idea during the Santacruzan kayaking festival that gathered a large number of spectators. He said kayaking can be developed as a fun sport, considering that Rizal Boulevard is a gateway to Dumaguete.

Sagarbarria tasked the City Tourism Office to conduct a study on the proposed kayaking at the boulevard. He said he wants to make sure that the program will be properly implemented.

He also said he plans to enter into a public-private partnership with the business sector to develop and manage the kayaking activity. A portion of the garden of the Dumaguete Press Club can also be utilized as mooring space for the kayaks, Sagarbarria said.

Negrenses should take pride in the boulevard as it is clean and well-managed, compared to those in other highly urbanized cities in the country, he added.*MA
