Royal Star, Organic
bag Fil-Sino title

Ranked third going into the final round, Royal Star Trading lived up to its billing as a dark horse as it completed its upset run by overwhelming top seeded AACI Trading, 96-82, to be crowned Class A champion of the 2012 Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade 1st Conference Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

In Class B titular showdown, Organic Solutions survived a late push by Jast Enterprises to bring home the title via a 72-65 victory.

It was a case of peaking at the right time as Royal Star edged closer to the title by eliminating 2 Huminova Tigers in the semifinals.

Against AACI Trading in the final, Royal Star trailed in the first quarter, 17-20, but bounced back in the second canto as Matthew Yap scored 13 points while Richard Uy set the tone for a double digit lead at the break 46-33.

A balanced offensive by AACI Trading anchored on Peter Galon and Gustilo with a combined output of 13 points cut the deficit to 65-58 going to the fourth quarter.

Jalando-on added 11 points and Gustilo scored 6 points, but it was not enough as Royal countered with Rey Pandoro hitting 12 points and Kenderson Hao adding six markers as Royal Star romped away with the title.

In the Class B encounter, the point guard spot was a waterloo for Jast enterprises as they succumbed to several turnovers especially in the second and third quarter.

The front line advantage of Jast was also offset by the double and triple teaming in the post as Organic pesky defenders denied entry passes in the shaded area.

Jast Enterprises held a slim 17-16 lead in the first quarter with Kevin Banzon and Christopher Mahinay combining for 11 points against Brian Ong and Simon Tan producing the same output for Organic.

Alex Chua stepped up for Organic as he scored on this floaters for 10 points and Ardian Ong added 5 points as they grabbed the lead at halftime 39-33, even as Kieron Tan scored 7 points and Eduardo Ng added 5 points for Jast.

With 7 players scoring for Organic led by Chua, Organic extended the lead to 59-46 by the end of third quarter.

Jast outscored Organic in the last quarter, but Organic was able to fend off the rally and clinched the Class B title.*NAB
