‘UNA members backing
re-election of Marañon

BY CARLA GOMEZ

The United Negros Alliance, which is the party of almost all of the elected officials in Negros Occidental, is pushing Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. to seek reelection in 2013, Board Member Nehemias de la Cruz said yesterday.

“We are pushing Governor Marañon to run for reelection. He has not said he will run yet, but there does not appear to be anyone else who plans to oppose him,” de la Cruz said.

He said they are also supporting the reelection of Genaro Alvarez for vice governor.

Marañon said he would like to focus on work now and not on politics.

“Less talk and more work,” he said, is better.

De la Cruz, who is seeking reelection as board member of the fifth district, said that, like the governor he would also remain with the Nationalist People’s Coalition.

His wife, Don Salvador Benedicto Vice Mayor Cynthia de la Cruz, is a member of the Partido ng Masang Pilipino.

The board member said his wife and son, DSB Mayor Marxlen Lawrence de la Cruz, are also seeking reelection in 2013.

Joemax Ortiz, who is said to be planning to run for mayor of DSB, has filed for transfer of his registration to vote in Don Salvador Benedicto.*CPG
