MassKara champs
arriving in  city today

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The MassKara dancers will hold a motorcade at 9 a.m. today in Bacolod City after coming home with the grand champion crown in the recent It’s Showtime Inter-City Edition grand finals of ABS-CBN, their production manager Nidz Villones said yesterday.

Bacolod City was hailed as the 5th It’s Showtime grand champion, and the first in its inter-city edition. It won the P3 million cash prize, after obtaining a perfect score of 10 from all the judges.

Villones said the P2 million cash prize, less taxes, will be divided among the performers and they will also liquidate all expenses incurred.

The Bacolod City government will receive P1 million, which Mayor Evelio Leonardia said will be spent on the programs of the city for tourism and culture.

Villones said that since this is an inter-city competition, the performance of the MassKara dancers showed the judges and the people that “We (Bacoleños) are united.”

She thanked everyone involved, especially the mayor and the city officials, for providing them cash and food assistance and Negros Occidental, 3rd District Rep. Albee Benitez for lending his chopper which had a great impact on everyone who saw the performance.

Villones said they expect that Bacolod City will be flooded with visitors during the MassKara Festival in October after they won in the It’s Showtime grand finals. They also expect to be invited to perform all over the country, she said, adding “We have about 60,000 viewers on YouTube in the last three days.”

Eight groups representing municipalities and cities from all over the Philippines vied for the title of It's Showtime: The Finals Inter-city Edition Grand Champion, Saturday.

Other entries were the Bailes de Luces of La Castellana, Negros Occidental which tied with Lahing Anda of Pangasinan for second place with a score of 9.9, Dumaguete’s Pride of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, ranked third with a score of 9.6. followed by Infinite Reform (Taytay, Rizal) with a score of 8.5, Amazing Paper Dolls (Olongapo City) - 8.4, Tiklad (San Pablo City, Laguna) - 8.0, and Next Level Octomix (Caloocan City) - 7.6.*CGS
