JSY Transport, Organic
slip past rivals in Fil-Sino

JSY Transport notched its first victory by slipping past Jast Enterprises, 65-63, while Organic Solutions survived an undermanned Basecom in double overtime, 87-85, in Class B action of the 2012 Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade 1st Conference Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

With brothers Tubby and Atong Villanueva taking charge of their offense JSY Transport erased Jast’s two-point lead and pulled away with a 10-point rally for a 61-51 lead.

Not to be easily dismissed, Jast responded with a 12-0 run of their own behind its transition offense ignited by Kevin Banzon to grab the lead with 50 seconds left, 63-61,

Tubby Villanueva bailed out JSY with back-to-back layups with the last basket scored with 6.9 seconds left.

Not being in the penalty situation, JSy used its two remaining fouls to give to derail Jast and foil their last shot attempt.

JSY escaped with the victory as the triple of Banzon just hit the backrim as time expired.

It was a contrast of style for both teams as Jast relied on their fastbreak attacks and outside shooting, while JSY Transport grinded it inside the paint relying on their big men and offensive rebounds to score.

Tubby Villanueva paced JSY Transport with 23 points while Jeremy Coo added 17, Atong Villanueva made 10, Celhelm Uy shot 9 points and Siopao Dichavez delivered 6 points.

Christopher Mahinay led Jast with 18 points, Banzon with 15, Brian Javelosa had 9 markers, and Papang Oxinio with 8 points.

Meanwhile, Organic survived a 42-point output from Luigi Coo and a double digit deficit going into the fourth quarter to steal the victory away from a five-man Basecom team. Basecom outscored Organic in the first three quarters, 8-17, 26-38, 44-57.

Basecom Brian Ong delivered three treys to finish with 13 points in the payoff quarter backed up by four players scoring at least four points each to force an overtime at 75-all.

In a closely fought double overtime game, Luigi Coo, who scored nine points in the fourth quarter for Basecom, delivered eight more points in the overtime periods. But his efforts were not enough to hold off the balanced Basecom offensive with a layup from Chingsan Su in the final three seconds sealing the victory for Organic.

Brian Ong led Organic with 23 points, Simon Tan hit 16, Jerky Ong picked up 14, Chingsan Su had 10, and Alex Chua with 9 points.

Backstopping Coo were Dr. Chico Coruña with 17 ppomts, RJ Iligan had 16, and Elwin Javelosa Jr. scored six points.*with a report from Stephen Tan
