Brgy head tagged
in slay out on bail

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A barangay captain tagged as a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 70-year-old woman on Nov. 16 in Brgy. Langub, Escalante City, Negros Occidental had posted bail and is now out of jail.

Langub barangay captain Macario Bayeta posted bail last week for homicide charges filed against him by the Escalante police before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Negros Occidental, Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan, NOPPO officer-in-charge, said yesterday.

Bayeta gave himself up to the Escalante police, after he allegedly shot Segundina Carbellido,70, in an offshoot of a stone-throwing incident, police investigations showed.

The .45 caliber pistol, allegedly used by Bayeta, in shooting at the house of the victim, that was taken from him by two Army soldiers, is now in the possession of the Escalante police.

Before the incident, the son-in-law of Bayeta, a certain Amay de Oro, was reportedly engaged in a fistfight with the son of Carbellido, identified only as a certain Bordyok, who was tagged as a suspect in the stoning of the house of the barangay chairman.

The stone-throwing incident at the house of Bayeta caused minor damage to some of his personal belongings.

Bayeta was reportedly not aware that Carbellido was in the house, when the alleged shooting incident took place.

Almost a month before the incident, Brgy. Capt. Egan Antonio also shot and injured a farm laborer who had ran amok in Brgy. Magballo, Kabankalan City, police records also show.

Antonio surrendered his licensed .45 caliber pistol to the Kabankalan police.*GPB
