NegOr officials bid
for Palaro hosting

A Negros Oriental delegation participated in the bidding in Manila for the hosting of the Palarong Pambansa in 2013 yesterday, a government press release said.

The group was composed of Gov. Roel Degamo, NegOr Department of Education Schools Division Supt. Salustiano Jimenez, Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, and some members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

Jimenez said Negros Oriental and Occidental are the remaining bidders for next year’s Palaro, after Cebu City withdrew and gave its support to the bid of Negros Oriental.

He said the facilities around the Capitol area, the quarters and playing venues give the province the edge over its rival bidder, the press release said.

Jimenez said hosting the country’s biggest sporting event will help promote the sports development program of the province and its tourism destinations, as some 20,000 athletes and guests are expected to witness the Palaro, that will be participated in by 17 regions competing in 16 sports disciplines during the weeklong tournament, the press release added.*
