4TH GAEV chessfest
unfolds October 27
The 4th George S. Aguirre/Atty. Eugenio Villasor Villanueva Jr. Memorial Negros Rapid Chess Championship will open on Oct. 27 at the Centroplex Mall, Bacolod City, a press release from the organizers said.
Antonio Ivan Aguirre and the FCBI First Community Bank Incorporated, Hugo Villanueva are the major sponsors of the tournament while the Eugenio Villasor Villanueva Foundation serves as a co-sponsor.
Both the Aguirre and Villanueva families in Negros Occidental are supportive of the grassroots development of chess in the province, the presss release said.
| YBAC battles cadiz Two member-teams of the Bacolod City-based Your Basketball Athletic Club will play a pair of goodwill games for 50 and up and 50 and below today against the visiting squads from Cadiz City at the West Negros University gym. The friendly match-up is an intermission to the ongoing YBAC Basketball Tournament played on weekends among the member squads of the league. Latest results from the tournament showed RD Trucking escaping with a 91-90 squeaker against Robinhood Commercial, while Jaltas/Consuelo Supermart outplayed defending champion Joshbianc Motors, 90-85. |
| 2013 Palaro hosting DEP Ed The Department of Education will announce next week the winning bidder who will host the 2013 Palarong Pambansa, Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said yesterday. Marañon led the delegation that presented the bid of Negros Occidental before DepEd officials in Manila yesterday afternoon. A delegation from Dumaguete City also presented their bid. |
