IN WESTERN VISAYAS
Neg. Occ. has most
4Ps beneficiaries

BY LISA GAPAC

Negros Occidental has the highest number of beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program in the Western Visayas with 87,164 households.

However, Alma Jornadal, Department of Social Welfare and Development VI social marketing officer for Pantawid Pamilya said yesterday, at Nature’s Village Resort and Restaurant in Talisay City, that this does not mean that the province has high incidence of poverty.

Jornadal was in Talisay City for the orientation and presentation of the core programs of DSWD.

“It does not mean that Negros Occidental has many poor people compared to other provinces, but only shows that many families and households here qualify for the program,” she said.

She said the primary concern of the program is to help and motivate parents to send their children to school and keep them healthy at the same time.

The program provides a maximum of P1,400 monthly stipend for families with children aged 0 to 14 years old.

Since 2008, DSWD VI has released P1,694,613,099 billion to about 240,000 households through the PP, Jornadal said.

She said 181 were delisted due to false information, 229 were found with inclusion errors, 84 grants are temporarily on hold, 29 were found fraudulent, and a beneficiary waived his grant.

Jornadal also assured all beneficiaries that as long as they follow the demands of the program, their monthly stipend will be continued and they will not be subject to delisting.*LTG
