World
Series organizers in Williamsport, Pennsylvania are ready to reimburse the Bacolod-Negros
softball team $10,000 for their travel expenses as soon as the squad arrives in
the United States for the Junior League World Series, Ba-Neg team manager Lagrimas
Ciokon said Friday. Ciokon said that she received confirmation regarding
the financial aid from Little League Philippines president Serge Bernal last week.
The $10,000 is the World Series counterpart fund for the Asia-Pacific Junior League
winner, Ciokon said. The Bacolod-Negros softbelles swept Guam for the As-Pac crown
June 15. "We are happy with the development but then again, we still need
to raise the P1.2 million because they (World Series organizers) will only release
the money in the US," she said. Ciokon said WS executives used to release
the money prior to the team's US trip but have changed their policy because some
officials use the money to pay back the debt from the previous trips of the team.
The Ba-Neg coach said the As-Pac winner would have received a $20,000 grant, if
there were at least three teams that competed in the tournament. But only Guam
challenged the Bacolod batters, after China, which earlier signified its intention
to join the As-Pac, did not join the tournament. *CPT back
