Bacolod paddlers Noah Trayco and Cherry Tiongco retained their 17-Under
crowns but it was an up-and-coming player from Andres Bonifacio Elementary School
who emerged as the biggest winner at the close of the 7th LOPTTA Age-Group Table
Tennis Tournament at the Lopue's San Sebastian in Bacolod City yesterday.
Trayco encountered little resistance in disposing Justin Daniel, 11-8,11-3,11-7,
to annex the boys' 17 and Under title, after Tiongco overwhelmed Benjielyn Dayap,
11-7,4-11,11-7,11-7, to rule the girls' division. Their victories came in the
wake of ABES standout Edmund Gargarian's double triumph in the 12 and Under and
10 and Under tournaments. Gargarian came away with an 11-4, 11-5, 11-9
victory over Ma-ao's Joshua Tolentino for the boys' 12 and Under crown, after
sweeping his three games in the 10 and Under category that included an 11-6,11-4,11-7
win over younger brother, Francis. Dayap made up for her loss by reigning
in the girls' 14 and Under division, where she came-from-behind to trounce La
Carlota's Romela Cabrela, 4-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-3. Michael Coronel of La Carlota
took top honors in the boys' category, following an 11-6, 11-7, 11-7 triumph over
Joel Montuya of Ma-ao. La Carlota also produced a champion in the girls'
12 and Under competition when Erla Gidaya defeated Beverly Paulma of Andres Bonifacio
Elementary School, 11-6, 11-9, 11-5. Paulma, earlier, ruled the girls' 10 and
Under, following a tough five-set win over St. Francis' Jean Mate 11-6,11-7,4-11,9-11,11-6.
