BY MARICAR ARANAS

A man pretending to be a cripple was arrested by the Dumaguete Philippine National Police Saturday morning, at the Ceres bus terminal in Barangay Calindagan, Dumaguete.

Police said Tonton Paero, 18, single and a resident of Brgy. 7, San Carlos City , Negros Occidental, looked and dressed like a beggar and appeared as a crippled in both legs.

He was seated in a corner at the Quezon Park asking for alms from the people watching the battle of the band concert at the recent Dumaguete fiesta celebration.

The police tried to stop the fake crippled man from asking alms saying it is illegal. But the suspect asked to be brought to the bus terminal as he will go home to San Carlos City .

While on board a motor cab, one of the police officers noted the suspicious behavior of the suspect and followed him to the bus terminal. He was surprised when suddenly the “crippled” man jumped off the motor cab and walked normally towards the bus.

Upon seeing the cripple walking towards the bus, the police immediately arrested Paero who tried to evade arrest.

The suspect was brought to the Dumaguete PNP detention cell for investigation. The police suspect Paero to also be a pickpocket.*MA
