2 security guards
found dead in south
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The bodies of two security guards who reportedly jumped into a river to avoid a group of armed men chasing them, were found in rivers of Kabankalan, Negros Occidental, and Mabinay, Negros Oriental, police said.

The decomposing body of George Manigos was found yesterday in the Ilog-Hilabangan river in Sitio Pangyasan, Brgy. Tabugon, Kabankalan City, while that of Hernani Ilana had been discovered on Tuesday in the Talacdan river in Mabinay, Negros Oriental, Chief Inspector Calixto Mabugat said.

Mabugat said that on July 7, Manigos, Ilana and their unidentified companion who were guarding a disputed property in Brgy. Tabugon, Kabankalan City, were chased by six armed men.

Manigos and Ilana jumped into a river in the barangay, in attempt to escape from the armed men. However, the two who are members of the Standstill Security Agency were drowned while attempting to cross the river, police investigations showed.

Mabugat, who is the Kabankalan police chief, said they are still trying to identify the armed men who reportedly chased them.*GPB
