"I
will have the last laugh, we will catch them." This was the warning Silay
Mayor Jose "Oti" Montelibano gave yesterday to city employees who stripped the
mayor's office of its documents and contents and vandalized city government vehicles.
Former Silay Mayor Carlo Gamban left days before he took over as mayor
and it was while Gamban was gone that those things were committed, Montelibano
said. When he took over the mayor's office there were no documents left
and the hard disks on the computers had been reformatted, the new Silay mayor
said. We are trying to recover files, we will catch up with the people
who sabotaged the mayor's office, he said. The office of the mayor was
cleaned out, even furniture was taken, he said. Montelibano, who was at
the Provincial Development Council meeting at the Capitol in Bacolod City, also
said the Silay City government is currently running on air but his administration
is looking for funding. The budget of the office of the mayor is zero
up to December 31, it is a good thing an P8 million supplementary budget was approved
Tuesday but it is still inadequate, he said. The previous administration
had been juggling the budget, it's a mess, he said. Meanwhile, Montelibano said
he is pushing for an export processing zone in Silay City and a five star hotel
with a capacity of 3,000 for the holding of conventions. He also said work is
underway on the McKinley Road leading to the new Bacolod-Silay airport.*CPG back
