eyes 9th straight win

Hoping to extend its winning streak and stay unbeaten in the tournament, BBC/Amazing '09 shoots for its 9 th victory tonight when it clashes against Batch 2003/2004/Martha in the 4 th University of St. La Salle Alumni/LNA7 Sports Foundation Basketball Tournament at the West Negros Gym.

Amazing '09 will be riding high on the consistent performance of shooter Marco Avecilla, who led the team to victory against Batch 2007-10 in their 7 th game, and the firepower of Nico Lopingco, who keyed the victory against Batch 1992/19996/2005 Pooh Spa JMCA.

It will be a tough assignment for the tournament leader, as Martha hopes to snatch its 6 th win in eight outings and share the No. 2 spot with Batch 2008/ Shakey's.

Tonight's game is expected to be another thriller after Friday night's sizzling match between Pooh Spa JMCA and Strollers, with the former getting away with a three-point win at 85-82.

JC Sobrevega registered 20 points to lead Poo Spa scorers as he exploded with 16 points in the second half.

It was a close game in all four quarters of play as both teams were tied at 16-all end of first quarter.

SG Villeran caught fire in the second quarter for Strollers as he scored 16 points, while Ren Ren Lacson backed him up with 11 points for a 31-27 lead at halftime.

In the second half, it was Sobrevega's turn to score for Pooh Spa as he teamed up with Ryan Seares for a combined 14-point output as they grabbed the lead, 64-63, going into the fourth quarter.

With Pooh Spa's defense focused on Villeran and Lacson, Strollers struggled on their offense as their two shooters were limited to two points each. Don Rostia carried the cudgels for Strollers as he scored 11 of his 15-point total output in the payoff period.

While Villeran and Lacson were heavily guarded, Pooh Spa

Pooh Spa's Paolo Cuenca scored six points while Leo Abao, Trabasas and Seares shared delivered four points each and Gerald Baldonado added three points.

Trabasas and Seares finished with 11 points each, Baldonado and Cuenca tallied 9 points, RB Banzuela and Salatorio had an identical 7-point performance, while Abao chipped in 6 points.

Meanwhile, Villeran topped Strollers' scoresheet with 18 points, Rostia picked up 15 points, and Lacson scored 13 points.

Also registering another win Friday night was Batch 2008/Shakey's out over Batch 2007/2010 with a convincing 88-71 final tally.*
