Blood donation urged
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

A resolution urging the Office of the City Mayor, Public Information Office, the City Health Office and barangay captains to intensify the campaign for voluntary blood donation, is being proposed by Councilor Roberto Rojas.

The resolution said that on July 26, 2011 Bacolod City was one of the recipients of the Sandugo Award given yearly by the Department of Health to local government executives who have shown support and commitment in providing safe and adequate blood supply.

Recently, the Philippine Red Cross reported that Bacolod City is experiencing lack of blood supply, it said.

The resolution said there must be a sufficient supply of blood in order to meet the demand of patients and to save the lives of people who may need it.

Blood donors will benefit from their voluntary act since they will be given a Blood Donor Card which can be later used to acquire blood units for themselves, their relatives or friends during times of emergency, it said.

Rojas is the chairman of the Sangguniang Committee on Health and Sanitation.*CGS
