2 killed, 3 cops injured

Two were killed, one a minor, and three policemen were injured in vehicular accidents in Hinigaran town and in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, Wednesday.

Police identified the fatalities as Cielo Pailuran, 11, of Brgy. Bato, Hinigaran and Richie Nicos, 45, of Brgy. Poblacion Uno, Sagay City.

Pailuran who reportedly crossing the street in Sitio Linao in Brgy. Bato at about 5 p.m. Wednesday when she was sideswiped by the patrol car of Isabela town, Negros Occidental.

She was rushed to the Ignacio Arroyo, Sr. District Hospital in Isabela, where she was declared dead on arrival.

Police Officer 3 Emmanuel Trinidad, who was driving the patrol car, was also rushed at the same hospital while Police Officer 2 Aireen Paco was taken to the Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital, in Bacolod City, where he is now confined.

Isabela town police chief, Senior Insp. Jayson Mangilumotan also sustained minor injuries but was not hospitalized, the police said.

Hinigaran town police chief, Senior Insp. Nerito Lobrido could not be contacted as of press time, but in an interview with ABS-CBN Bacolod, he said that Pauliran was not seen while she was crossing the street because of a tricycle parked beside the road.

Cherry Pailuran, the victim’s mother, called for an impartial investigation on the case of her daughter and appealed for help from the Isabela police.

Investigation showed that the Isabela policeman were on their way to Hinigaran when the accident happened.

Meanwhile, in Sagay City, Nicos was on his motorcycle when it collided with a Misubishi pick-up while at the national highway in Sitio Quinalumsan in Brgy. 1 at about 4 p.m., traffic head, Police Officer 3 Joseph Vargas said.

Investigation showed that the multi-cab of Francisco Agtoto of Brgy. Mabini in Escalante City, Negros Occidental suddenly swerved to the left on the road and collided with Nicos’ motorcycle.

Nicos was brought to the Lodiffi Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival, while Agtoto surrendered to Sagay City police.*APN
