‘Voters certification
more accurate than ID’

Bacolod COMELEC Officer Mavil Majarucon-Sia said the voter’s certificate is more accurate than the voter’s ID, in reply to the complaints of some voters that they have not yet received their COMELEC IDs, a press release from City Hall said.

Majarucon said the voter’s certificate is preferred to the Comelec ID and, among others, SSS, GSIS, passport agencies, and Pera Padala offices.

Out of some 250,000 voters in the city, only 80,000 have IDs because of problem in Comelec Manila in coping with the nationwide number of voters, she said

She added that she herself has no Comelec ID and that, if processing were localized, Comelec Bacolod can have more control over the situation.

Manila has not given a specific reason for the non-availability of Comelec ID, she added.

Majarucon also said that the names of voters who have not practiced their right of suffrage for two years now will be deactivated so that showing one’s Comelec ID will not suffice for voting.

Meanwhile, Councilor Carl Lopez said they will follow Mayor Evelio Leonardia with regard to avoiding making pronouncements until they are sure about the COMELEC guidelines.

The Mayor has decided to stay mum pending release of COMELEC rules and regulations, and until the campaign period start, the press release added.*
