Negros Occidental Provincial Elections Supervisor Jessie Suarez yesterday called on candidates to file their Certificates of Candidacy early and avoid cutting it too close to the 5 p.m. deadline today.
As much as possible, file your CoCs in the morning to avoid the deadline rush, he said.
If the candidates file their CoCs early, they will have time to rectify possible errors found in their CoCs, Suarez said.
Three incumbent Negros Occidental congressmen – Julio Ledesma IV (1st District), Jeffrey Ferrer (4th District) and Alejandro Mirasol (5th District) are expected to filed their CoCs before the provincial COMELEC today.
Philip Arles, son of slain judge Henry Arles, is also expected to file his CoC for congressman of the sixth district.
Meanwhile, Suarez said that, under a recent Supreme Court ruling, there are no set rules for premature campaigning as long as one does not use the word vote in one’s advocacies.
One is only bound by rules of the campaign period when it starts for local bets on March 29 and for national aspirants on February 12, Suarez said.*CPG back
