24 th SEA Games Medal Tally
As of 6:30 p.m., Tuesday

G S B
Malaysia 1 1 0
Myanmar 1 0 0
Vietnam 1 0 0
Thailand 0 2 0
Indonesia 0 0 2

The Philippines ' overall title-retention bid took off on a wrong note in the 24 th Southeast Asian Games yesterday as Filipino bets in precision shooting faltered, paving the way for their early exit at the Thailand Shooting and Clay target ranges in Bangkok .

Missing out on the medal rounds were Carolino Gonzales, who wound up 12th in the men's 10-meter air pistol; Susan Aguado who struggled in the 25-meter pistol, and Nikki Medina who ended up with six points out of the 50-meter prone gold.

Medina tallied 581 points for ninth place in the event topped by veteran Than Than Saw of Myanmar over Malaysian Mohd Taybi Nursuryani.

Erlinawatti Chalid of Indonesia salvaged the bronze after finishing just a point behind Saw and Nursuryani.

Each shooter has 10 shots in a string and each event has six rounds, making 600 the perfect score. Ties are broken by counting back from each shooter's string.

A veteran shooter, Emerito Concepcion, gets going today in the 10-meter air pistol for men, along Alfonso Hermoso and Daryl Sandoval.

Concepcion, who finished eighth in the Manila edition two years ago, is not only eyeing the individual gold but also hopes to carry Hermoso and Sandoval to a medal in the team event.

Aguado came up with a 555 total out of a perfect 600. His effort was 19 points behind the 574 of Vietnamese Thu Van Nguyen, who advanced as the top seed in the medal round late yesterday.

Gonzales, on the other hand, scored 565 points as Tran Quok Cuong of Vietnam took top spot with 579 points.

The opening ceremonies of the biennial games are scheduled Dec. 6 in Nakhon Ratchasima.

Men's football, which Bacolod hosted two years ago, starts Dec. 1. The Philippines is not fielding a team in the men's division but will be in action in the women's tournament.*CPT
