The media liaison of Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella is questioning
the purchase of P700,000 worth of disinfectants by the Bacolod City
government from a pharmaceutical company claiming that its Mayor's
Permit is questionable, but City Legal Officer Allan Zamora said
the permit is valid.
The liaison said the city purchased P199,500 worth of disinfectants
on Jan. 16 and P499,800 worth of the same items on Jan. 24 from
Gerden Pharmaceutical Laboratories and Company, Inc. which only
applied for a Mayor's Permit on Jan. 26.
He said its Mayor's Permit was only issued on Jan. 31.
He said the purchase is anomalous since the city is spending
the money of the people of Bacolod. But Zamora said this only shows
that the liaison, Eric Tenerife does not understand the process.
He said the deadline for renewal of application for business
permit is Jan. 20 but more often, this is extended by the Sangguniang
Panlungsod. In 2007, while the deadline was Jan. 20, the SP extended
it to Feb. 1, he said.
Zamora said that from Jan. 20 to Feb. 1 the business permit
of those processing for its renewal, is still valid.
COUNCIL SLATE
Meanwhile, Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday disclosed
that six incumbent city councilors are joining his slate in the
May elections.
He said Councilors Greg Gasataya, Homer Bais, Jude Thaddeus Sayson,
Napoleon Cordova, Al Victor Espino, and Dindo Ramos are definitely
running with him and so is former Councilor Roberto Rojas.*CGS
