Politics all in the family
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Its all in the family in the 6th district of Negros Occidental.

Former Rep. Genaro Alvarez yesterday said he may run for congressman in the 6th district, with his daughter-in-law, Joyce Alvarez, also running for mayor of Ilog town. Of his two sons, Genaro Rafael, represents the 6th district of Negros Occidental in the House of Representative, while Paul, is now on his third term as mayor of Ilog.

Genaro Rafael, a member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Occidental from 2001 to 2004, won unopposed in the 6th district congressional race three years ago.

Alvarez said former Mayor Soledad Montilla may also run for mayor in Sipalay City.

On the other hand, Mayor Oscar Montilla who is now on his last term as mayor of Sipalay City, will be the running mate of his mother, Soledad, Alvarez added.

He also said Cauayan Mayor Jerry Tabujara is now graduating, and his son John Rey, will also run for mayor of the town.

Ex-Mayor Jake Manzano is also running for mayor of Candoni. His wife, Liberty, won in the town mayoralty race in May 2004 elections.

Teresa Bilbao, wife of former Mayor Francisco Bilbao, is also running for mayor in Hinobaan, against incumbent Mayor Jane Cubic who will reportedly seek re-election.

Alvarez said Hinobaan is a "free zone" as of now.

Mayor Pedro Zayco is also expected to seek re-election as mayor of Kabankalan City. He replaced his brother, Isidro, as mayor in 2001.

Vice-Governor Isidro Zayco is also seeking re-election.

Alvarez said he has no idea yet who his opponent will be in the 6th district congressional race.*GPB
