The Philippine Coast Guard in Bacolod City yesterday called on Negrense fishermen fishing in Masbate waters to immediately report to authorities any sightings of plane debris, which could possibly help in the search for Local Government Secretary Jessie Robredo and two pilots.

Lt. Commander Dominador Senador, PCG-Bacolod head, said fishing vessels from Cadiz City in Negros Occidental fish in Masbate.

Strengthen legal offensives vs.
NPA, law enforcers told

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Local military and police commanders have been ordered to strengthen their legal offensives against leaders of the New People's Army, following the release of several arrested rebel leaders in Negros after posting bail.

Col. Oscar Lactao, 303 rd Infantry Brigade commander, yesterday said there is need to re-visit their strategies in the conduct of legal offensives against key personalities of the NPA in Negros island.

Lactao also emphasized the importance of teamwork among military and police, that, he said, has already produced results, citing the checkpoints, that led to the arrest of two NPA leaders and the interception of armed red fighters, all in San Carlos City, in previous months.moremoremore

Negrenses to honor
Ninoy at rites today
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Negrenses will mark this afternoon the 29 th anniversary of the assassination of Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. on his return to the Philippines from a three-year exile in the United States, saying the “Filipino is worth dying for".

Ninoy was shot dead Aug. 21, 1983 at the tarmac of the then Manila International Airport, which has since been renamed after him. His death triggered the EDSA People Power Revolution in 1986, that led to the end of the Marcos dictatorship.

Let us honor Ninoy Aquino with a simple ceremony at his statue near the old Bacolod Airport 5 p.m. to 7p.m. today, Nana Yulo, N4NM convenor, said yesterday.moremoremore
