WV crimes drop 26%, police say
BY GILBERT BAYORAN
The “Patrulya ng Pulis” project, a new anti-crime strategy of the Police Regional Office 6, caused the reduction of the crime volume in Western Visayas, after it was implemented in November last year, police records show.

Crime volume dropped from 1,625 in November and December of 2010, to 1,203 in the same period last year, registering a 26 percent reduction, Senior Inspector Sally Manuel, regional police spokesperson, said.

Under the “Patrulya Police” project, 10 percent of the uniformed personnel assigned at the regional and provincial headquarters performing administrative functions, are deployed to patrol duties, especially in crime-prone areas.

Manuel said the new anti-criminality strategy is aimed at increasing police visibility in areas of convergence, transport terminals and major streets.

Personnel at the regional and provincial headquarters are obliged to render four hours of beat patrol everyday.

About 500 police personnel from regional and provincial police headquarters in six provinces of Western Visayas have been mobilized to conduct patrols in more than 140 areas regionwide, in the implementation of the Patrulya Police project.

"They augment the strength of the territorial police units, especially in police visibility in the streets, malls, banks, transport terminals, airports, seaports and other crowded places," Manuel added.* GPB
