Teenager to face
homicide charges

BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Homicide charges will be filed before the Bacolod City Prosecutor’s Office against a teenager, who fatally stabbed a convenience store employee Sunday at the downtown area of the city.

Jovy Cabcaban, chief of the Bacolod City Police Women and Children’s Complaints Desk, said the suspect, 17, whose identity the police withheld is now in the custody of the Social Development Center.

Cabcaban said the suspect will be assessed by a social worker to see if he acted with discernment when he stabbed and killed Cyrus Carampatana, 48, of Brgy. Estefania, Bacolod at about 3 a.m. Sunday.

The suspect claimed that Carampatana harassed his girlfriend while they were at a burger stand at the junction of Luzuriaga-Locsin streets.

He added that Carampatana, who, he claimed, was under the influence of liquor, attempted to stab him.

Cabcaban said it is up to the suspect to prove his self-defense claims in court.*APN
