Bacolod City is one of the four finalist cities representing the three Philippine island groups and the National Capital Region, and the only city from the Visayas, with the three others as Olongapo City (Luzon), Cagayan De Oro (Mindanao) and Valenzuela City (NCR).

This was the result of the final judging of the finalists in the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Search for the 2012 Most Business Friendly Local Government Unit – City Level 1 Category, where Mayor Evelio Leonardia represented Bacolod yesterday.

Mayors Sherwin Gatchalian of Valenzuela and James Gordon, Jr. of Olongapo represented their respective cities.moremoremore

Guv challenges Alvarez
to daily debates

Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon yesterday challenged Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez Jr. to daily debates on any program implemented by the provincial government that he wishes to question during the political season.

Marañon was reacting to the statements of Alvarez that the Sangguniang Panlalawigan is seeking an accounting of the cattle and sheep purchased by the provincial government, and that there will be no southern or northern Negros should he win the governorship.moremoremore

Four cops get
arrest warrants

Four policemen from Bacolod City were served arrest warrants for arbitrary detention issued by Municipal Trial Courts in Cities Branch 5 Judge Remegio Rojo yesterday and three of them have posted bails at the Hall of Justice.

Police Officers 2 Glenn Montaño, Ronelo Molato and Clint William Ferrer, who claimed that the charges were purely harassment, settled their bail of P12,000 each.

Meanwhile, City Police Office Operations chief, Senior Insp. Jeffrey Attunaga, who was also included in the arrest warrant, declined to comment on the case when contacted by the DAILY STAR but said he will post bail today.moremoremore
