EB Magalona Mayor David Lacson, president of the Negros Association of Chief Executives, yesterday said the mayors of Negros Occidental are hoping and praying that a break-up in the United Negros Alliance is prevented.
A break-up would open the floodgates for more opposition candidates to emerge in the towns and cities of Negros Occidental in 2013, he said.
Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. and Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez Jr. of UNA appear to be headed for a showdown for the gubernatorial seat in 2013.
But Lacson said the mayors are hoping that a showdown is prevented internally by the top UNA leaders.
San Enrique Mayor Mario Magno said it would be a shame for the formidable UNA party that has been existence for more than 10 years to fall apart.
“If possible, we are hoping that a solution is reached by the top leadership of UNA,” he said.
Even nationally, UNA is known as a formidable party that can ensure the victory in the province of national candidates it supports, he said.
And because these national leaders respect UNA, when they win, they in turn give projects to the province, Magno pointed out.*CPG back
