QUEROL SAYS
No mercy for cops using drugs

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

No mercy for policemen involved in illegal drugs.

The warning was made by Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol, regional police director of Western Visayas, who said he is determined to pursue the dismissal from the service of any police officer, who tests positive for illegal drugs.

“Using or selling illegal drugs is uncalled-for behavior in a police officer and the penalty for the offense is tantamount to dismissal from the service,” Querol said.

A police officer with the rank of superintendent recently tested positive during random drug testing at Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo City, conducted by the PNP Crime Laboratory.

Querol said summary dismissal proceedings will be initiated against police officers who test positive for illegal substances.

“We cannot allow the few misfits to taint our image to the public; they must be removed from our ranks if there is a substantial evidence to prove their guilt,” Querol, who justified the random drug testing to remove misfits from the regional police force, said.

He said operatives of the Regional Anti-Illegal Drug Task Forces are not exempted from the random drug testing. * GPB
