MANILA - The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration yesterday said that the active low pressure area has intensified into tropical storm and is locally named as “Dindo”.

Weather Forecaster Samuel Duran said that as of 4 p.m. yesterday Dindo was spotted 670 km East Northeast of Virac, Catanduanes (14.2°N, 131.3°E) with maximum winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph).

Duran said Dindo might bring rainfall of between 10 and 15 mm per hour (heavy) within the 400 km diameter.

Duran said the tropical storm has small chance to make a landfall just like the first three cyclones which entered in Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

PAGASA did not issue storm warning signals but Duran said Dindo may enhance the southwest monsoon that would bring rains to the parts of extreme Northern Luzon.

Dindo is expected to exit in PAR on Saturday or Sunday and most probably headed to Taiwan, he said.

PAGASA said Dindo was moving West Northwest at 19 kph and is expected to be 520 km East of Casiguran, Aurora by Wednesday afternoon and 320 km East of Aparri, Cagayan or 320 km Southeast of Basco, Batanes Thursday afternoon.

By Friday afternoon, it is expected to be 80 km North Northeast of Basco Batanes.

PAGASA also reminded fishing boats and other small seacraft not to venture out to the seaboards of Luzon, Visayas and Eastern Mindanao due to big waves generated by the southwest monsoon and Dindo.

Weather forecaster Gladys Saludes said that the rains experienced in Metro Manila on Tuesday was due to wind convergence.

Palawan, Visayas and Mindanao also experienced rains on Tuesday due to southwest monsoon, she added.*PNA
