Another arrest warrant, this time for violation of the Commission on Elections gun ban, was served yesterday to a former candidate for councilor in Bacolod City, who was nabbed by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group last week when several bullets were recovered from his house.
Bacolod City Police Warrant and Subpoena Section head, Senior Insp. Charles Gever, said the arrest warrant against Emmanuel Benares Aguilar, “alias Epi”, 50, at Homesite Subdivision, Brgy. Montevista, Bacolod was issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Fernando Elumba, who set his bail at P80,000.
The case was filed after Aguilar was caught with a firearm while the COMELEC gun ban was in effect several years ago, Gever said.
Aguilar is still confined at the Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital, where he was brought allegedly for chronic kidney disease after his arrest Wednesday. Aguilar, an accountant by profession, ran for city councilor in 2010 but lost.
Aside from illegally-possessing ammunitions, Aguilar is also wanted by the International Police for four counts of money-laundering in the U.S. State of Nevada, reports said.
CIDG-Bacolod head, Chief Insp. Fernando Salvatierra said that if Aguilar is able to post bail, he might be transferred to the custody of Interpol Manila on orders of their U.S. counterpart.
Aguilar had earlier stressed that the ammunition seized at his house were not his and the money laundering charges were trumped-up to demean his reputation.*APN back
